We are already well into the third quarter of the school year! On Wednesday, March 4th, our fourth and fifth grade students will be taking the well-awaited Florida Standards Assessment Writing Test. As a show of support, all grade levels will be busy making personalized banners encouraging 4th and 5th grade students to do their best on the day of the test. We are also excited about the upcoming Golden Pencil Awards Ceremony which is our "Writing Oscars" that will be held on Monday, March 2nd at 9:00 a.m. We are a community of learners who support and encourage each other. There is an overwhelming love and support for our fourth and fifth grade students and we know they will continue to exceed our expectations.
We just finished celebrating the first 100 days of school and it was exciting to see our students participating with much excitement. There were many wonderful classroom activities taking place in all of the grade levels. It's always fun to see our students celebrating being 100 days smarter.
We are looking forward to meeting our future Discovery Dolphins at our annual Kindergarten Roundup on Friday, February 27, 2015. This is a wonderful opportunity for our incoming Kindergarten students and parents to register for the 2015-2016 school year, get to know the Kindergarten team, and learn all about Kindergarten at Discovery Elementary School. For registration information, please contact the school at (754) 322-9100.
This is an important time of the school year and we want to remind every child that he/she should be reading at least 20 minutes each evening. Academic success rests on student preparation. Just as athletes train for an event, students must also train academically for success. We often remind them of the following, "You get out what you put in." The daily immersion of independent reading makes a profound impact on student achievement. Your continued support in this endeavor is always greatly appreciated.
