In February, the Pre-K speech class met a letter person of the week that helped us all month long. Her name is Mrs. V. She helped us learn about being healthy and eating our vegetables to get all our vitamins. We began working on sounds that require tight constriction of the articulators and airflow. We practiced the /v/ sound with use of the mirror to see that our front, upper teeth are positioned over our lower lip. Then we put our finger under our teeth to feel the ‘vibrating’ air as we make the /v/ sound. We also practiced /f/ and call it the quite fan sound, versus the noisy vacuum sound /v/. We worked on identifying and distinguishing which words began with /f/ versus /v/, as well as practice using these sounds when sorting vegetables versus fruit. Ms. V also stands for vowels and we got to meet each of the letter people representing each of the vowels. Ms. A stands for ‘achoo,’ as she is always sneezing and teaching us the importance of good healthy, such as washing our hands. Ms. E taught us about exercise and we practiced following directions with big motor and small motor movements, like Simon Says. Mr. I loves to measure in inches and helped us practice concepts of size such as short and tall. Mr. O helped us practice our opposites, like: up and down, cold and hot, yes and no. Ms. U loves to carry her umbrella and helped us talk about the weather outside and making choses as to what to wear and do based on what it looks like outside. Best of all, February was ALL ABOUT ME month and we started featuring a kid of the week to share toys, pictures and memorable while practicing speaking to our friends.
