Students enjoyed their time on our recent field trip to Junior Achievement of South Florida. On the trip, students used their critical thinking skills as they explored and enhanced their understanding of free enterprise. J.A. BizTown supports academic content standards in social studies, reading, writing, and mathematics. Although students were tired from a hard day of work, they had a blast! Thank you to our parents who willingly volunteered. You are simply the best!
Our fifth grade students are participating in workshops for Gang, Resistance, and Drug Education (G.R.A.D.E.). Our very own School Resource Officer Yarborough hosts the program, visiting each 5th grade class once a week during the Social Studies block throughout a 6-week period. G.R.A.D.E. is a prevention program to help empower our students to make responsible choices about drug use as well as to deal with violent behaviors such as bullying. G.R.A.D.E. within Discovery’s educational environment can provide a vital tool in equipping our students to make responsible and safe choices.
We are now in the third quarter and we would like our fifth graders to continue using all of the digital resources that are available for use at home for extra practice and assistance in content areas. If you are unsure of the available resources, please ask your child’s teacher.
Parents, thank you so much for your continued support as we strive to make your child’s last year of elementary school the best! Please remember if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Together We Make the Difference!
