Westpine Middle School
Our visit to Westpine Middle school on February 9th, 2017 was a spectacular event, our students had an opportunity to live a little of what Westpine Middle had to offer.
On February 16th, 2017 we took over JA BizTown. No classroom lesson could provide our students with their experience at JA BizTown. The students were citizens responsible for running all of the companies and other entities located in JA Biztown. The students composed advertisement (Radio, Television, Newspaper), wrote checks from their very own checkbooks to purchase goods and pay for services, and finally the students registered to vote and voted using their own Voters Registration Card. This visit was comprised of lessons which went beyond the

Saturday Enrichment Camp
Special Recognition goes out to the students who attend Saturday Enrichment Camp. We are amazed at your continuous commitment each Saturday. We ask that your endurance continues for the next three weeks. As we approach FSA, we look forward to our FSA Pep Rally on March 23, 2017. We want our students to get a lots of rest, continue to study hard, stay focus, and remember to be AWESOME!
The countdown has officially began! As we quickly approach the FSA Writing Test, we are diligently working to ensure that “our” children are is using the proper resources. We have fully equipped each child with the necessary materials to write a well-organized essay. These resources include a Writer’s Checklist, an FSA Sample Test, a Rubric, and many others materials.
The FSA Writing Test will be administered on Tuesday, February 28. During the two hour time frame, students will be required to: (1) read multiple sources, (2) determine if they are writing an informative or opinion essay, (3) plan and write a multi-paragraph essay.
Students who receive accommodations will be given extra time. Your continued support is needed as your child works daily on his or her prompt to fully prepare him or her for this much anticipated test.
November is all about Giving. Our Fifth grade team is focusing on teambuilding and collaborating as a “Discovery” family. Last month, we hosted a phenomenal Multicultural Night, where our theme was “Our Fifth Grade Journey to Africa”. In addition, the Fifth grade student body voted for their Student Government Representatives. Congratulations to all the participants.
This month we are hosting a Parent University Night. At this presentation we will demonstrate great ways for you to incorporate activities at home to continue your child’s success. We look forward to working as a team to make our 5th Grade Family a Success.
The 2016-2017 school year is successfully underway. Our 5th grade students worked diligently on completing their beginning of the year baseline assessments: STAR - tests to set “Readers are Leaders” goals and I-Ready Reading Diagnostic to set beginning reading level goals. In Reading, our students are strengthening their “Good Reader Strategies” through questioning, predicting, inferring, making connections, and analyzing their reading passages. In Math, our students are developing an understanding of fluency through the division of whole numbers. Our students are making real world connections in science by comparing weather patterns and climate changes.
